Art Statement

Welcome to A Maladapted Universe filled with Ghost Girls and Stick Souls, mismatched sets of wings and broken bodies.....for you! These apocalyptic landscapes and bodies are abstracted to oblivion to depict the rapidly advancing state of technology, urban decay, generation gaps, forgotten folktales and cultural shifts. Most bodies represent the search for the self in the madness of currency, media, and war of modern American society. As a female artist, I depict mainly female bodies and touch on feminine issues such as abortion, eating disorders, aging in a youth obsessed culture, mental illness, the horror or joy of pregnancy and the marketing of the female body. I combine symbols of these controversial issues with icons that signify traditional female roles such as sewing needles, tea cups, ribbons and aprons. This illustrates the quest for a valid role as a female with precious rural roots in the modern south. As a visual artist, I am wide eyed watching the world spin faster and retelling the story in images...because I feel completely compelled to do so.

My work is for sale. I would be delighted if you wanted a piece! Please contact me for info on pricing or for any other information. I would love to hear from you.
